The challenge
A review visit was made to the Moove Lubricants (formerly Comma Oils) site in Gravesend in December 2019 to consider compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR). Previously we had provided assistance in 2016 and 2018. Operations incorporate storage, blending and filling of various liquid components into finished (from 205L drummed to 5L containers) products.
The solution provided
Areas of in-depth review and analysis included the bulk storage, mixing and filling operations, along with a review of Hazardous Area Classification and recommendations for improvements to ensure risks reduced so far as is reasonably practicable. Additionally advice was given on the importance of adequate ventilation. The previous corrective action plan was reviewed with the client to confirm their progress with phased improvements.
Due to the internal initiative to reduce the storage and use of flammable substances, it was possible to reduce and in some cases de-classify certain areas.
The reviewed assessment, drawings and action plan was presented in an updated DSEAR report for management.
