The Challenge

Key areas of risk centred around the heat treatment processes and associated fuels and chemicals, which may give risk to explosive atmospheres.
The Solution Provided
Adequate control of fuel gases and burner management systems is key in preventing risk to personnel from fire and explosions.
A full review of plant operations, equipment and working procedures was undertaken to identify where potential hazardous zoning was needed and how and where sources of ignition could be removed. From the review a detailed report was presented to management with areas for improvement clearly identified in the action plan.
A large number of areas and processes required Hazardous Area Classification to be properly defined; and supporting diagrams were included in the report.
